Rahul Gandhi, the newly elected Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, highlighted all the issues the Congress has been bringing up during his first visit to his constituency, Raebareli, following his election victory, without taking aim at the Yogi Adityanath government or the Center.
Throughout his daylong journey, Gandhi made targeted and precise visits at a Hanuman temple, the Shaheed Smarak, the late Captain Anshuman Singh’s residence, and the nearby AIIMS, the foundation stone of which was placed by his mother and former Raebareli MP Sonia Gandhi.
Gandhi’s first destination was the Hanuman temple in the Churva neighborhood of Raebareli. His visit came just after the BJP staged protests outside and within Parliament over his remarks addressing the party and Hindus. Raebareli had seen posters up before his arrival, imploring him to “clarify which religion he belonged to.” Gandhi therefore offered prayers at the temple while the Hanuman Chalisa was being performed in the first images of his visit.
THE RAEBARELI LEGACY
The Gandhis have represented this area as MPs since 1952, with a brief hiatus. Indira Gandhi succeeded Feroze Gandhi as the contestant from this position. Ram Narain defeated her in 1977 following an emergency. Sonia Gandhi picked Amethi as her first choice when she finally overcame her dislike of politics and ran for office in 1989. However, she moved to Raebareli in 2004 when Rahul decided to run for office.
Raebareli reminds people of Indira Gandhi even now. Rahul has attempted to arouse this recollection in order to give the impression that he is the inheritor. That is the primary cause.
